Finding Your Dream, Finding Yourself : The Alchemist Model
“Dream. Dream. Dream. For dreams will transform into thoughts and thoughts result in action.” These are the famous words from ‘The Wings Of Fire’, autobiography of the former Indian president Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. This surely gives the motivation to dream more. But, an important question arises. What should I dream about? Is is money? Is it a good job? Is is social status? Is it a multi million dollar company? NO. Absolutely not. Every Individual has got the potential to dream beyond these peripheral needs and it is the courage to do so makes some people exceptionally successful than others.
Finding that one thing that you are meant to do is perhaps a difficult task. But, once you are mentally prepared to do that, this difficult task will get easier moment by moment. Alchemist and the shepherd boy ‘Santiago’ taught me how to do this and in this article I am sharing my insights with you. So, here they are the 7 golden rules of the THE ALCHEMIST MODEL for finding your dreams and thereby finding yourself.
1.We All Need A Dream!
How can you even think about a life without any dreams? Life is not always sweet. It presents itself with lot of problems and difficulties. But, when people see what they will achieve after these hardships, they will stop complaining about the problems and will start to enjoy the process itself. Only those with a clear vision about their dreams can do this. So, it is important to find what you really want to do with your life. You may have had a dream. It is also the time to recheck whether that is what you really want to become in life. Start with a simple question: “What will make you the happiest in this world?”. In its answer lies the pointer to finding your dream. So, lets get started.
2.Never Underestimate Yourself
When you want to set course towards finding your dream, first thing you want to assure yourself is that you will never underestimate your capabilities. If you don’t believe in yourself, nobody else will. He also says, “People are capable at any time in their lives, of doing what they dream of.” So, it is essential to have a dream and if you haven’t figured it out yet, this is the right moment for that.
3.You Are Not Alone
When you start believing in yourself, everything around you changes. You will be full of positive energy and you will start spreading this positive vibe wherever you go and to whomever you meet. And then, people will be happy to help you. Everything will work in your favor. So, you won’t have to think that you are alone on this mission (even though, literally you are!) because the entire universe will be there to help you out when you are in need.
4.Never Be Afraid
People who are afraid of doing something, will never be able to do that in their lives. We all have our own fears. But, when the time comes, whether we can get rid of them or not is the real concern. A wire walker can be afraid of doing his item any time before the show begins. But, once he is on the wire, there is no room for fears. If he is afraid when he is on the wire, he will definitely fall. But, that moment when he starts believing in himself and get past his fears, is the golden moment for him. Likewise, we should be able to our own golden moments by conquering our fears.
5.Learn From Your Failures
Following your dream is somewhat like investing money in a share market. Even if you do the best predictions, you don’t know what happens next. It is highly unlikely that you will get there in the first try itself. But, failures should not disappoint you. Instead, you should be learning from them. Every failure is a better lesson than victory itself. Failures will shape you what you are. Always remember, failures are the stepping stones to success and you can’t find a better master than them.
6.Don’t Judge Others; Don’t Imitate Others
The biggest mistake most people do in their quest for their dreams is that, they will try to imitate the dreams of someone else, someone they consider a model. This should not happen. Every human being in this universe is unique and it is this uniqueness that makes us what we really are. Whenever we try to imitate others, we are tearing apart our uniqueness. Also, people like to criticize others whenever someone makes a mistake, but will mostly commit the same mistake when they do the same thing. We don’t have the authority to blame or criticize others if we ourselves are wrong. (Actually, even when we are correct about one thing, we don’t have the authority to do so, because there will be at least one thing that we will be doing wrong and this accused person will be doing it right.) Remember, whenever you point a finger to a fellow human being, the rest of the fingers will be pointed at you.
7. Follow Your Heart
Always follow your heart. Do what you love to do, not what others want you to do. Smile when you are happy, don’t fake it. See the world. Talk to people. Learn from the universe. Embrace your inner self. Be in harmony with it. Be Positive. Change the lives around you. That is what Santiago ultimately learned and that is exactly what he wants us to do.
Peace Love Happiness.
